The company initially produced glass-fibre bodies for various buggy models, including the Apal Buggy, Rancho, Jet, and Auki. Between 1968 and 1981, approximately 5,000 of these bodies were produced. Apal also developed and produced models such as the Apal 1200 Saloon, based on a Volkswagen Beetle floorplan, and the Apal Speedster, a replica of the Porsche 356 Speedster. In 1984, Apal collaborated with an American company to develop a two-seater sports coupé based on Mercedes-Benz W201 underpinnings, intended for the US market. The company’s final model, the Apal Sport One, was based on the Pontiac Fiero.  In 1998, the original Belgian company closed. A German company, Apal GmbH, acquired all spare parts and restarted production of the Apal Speedster in 1998.
