It developed the ASA 1000 GT, initially conceived as a less expensive alternative to Ferrari’s existing models. The car's design and engine were based on work by Ferrari engineers in the late 1950s, utilizing an inline-four engine derived from a Ferrari 250 V12. The chassis was designed by Giotto Bizzarrini, based on the tubular frame of the 250 GTO. Production began in 1964, following a debut at the 1962 Turin Auto Show. Oronzio de Nora and his company, the De Nora Electrochemical Group, oversaw production at a Milan facility. Limited sales were hampered by high prices relative to competing vehicles and limited domestic demand in the United States, where Luigi Chinetti served as the sole importer. Production of the 1000 GT reached approximately 50-75 units between 1964 and 1967, with additional competition models produced for racing. These included the 1000 GTC and Berlinetta 411, both utilizing modified versions of the 1000 GT engine.
