Production of the Bedford van plant concluded in March 2025. Prior to 1931, General Motors assembled trucks in Britain using imported parts. In 1925, GM acquired Vauxhall Motors and moved production to Luton. The initial Bedford models, such as the AC and LQ, were styled as “Chevrolet Bedfords” from 1929 to 1931. The company introduced a range of vehicles, including the 3-ton WT series in 1933 and the HC van in 1938. During World War II, Bedford produced a significant number of military vehicles, including the MW truck (65,995 units) and various O-series lorries. The QL, a four-wheel drive lorry, was developed in 1941 and widely used by the British Army. In the 1950s, the CA van was launched and became a major export success. The S-type trucks were popular in Commonwealth countries, and the SB bus was a significant seller internationally. The TK range continued to be produced until 1969, serving as a basis for numerous specialized vehicles.
