In 1920, they moved to Indianapolis and founded Duesenberg Automobile & Motors Company, producing the Model A in 1921. The Model A introduced innovations like a straight-eight engine and four-wheel hydraulic brakes, becoming the first American car to feature these. The company gained prominence through racing success, including winning the 1921 French Grand Prix and numerous Indianapolis 500 races in the 1920s. In 1926, Errett Lobban Cord acquired the company, leading to a shift in focus and the introduction of the Model J in 1929. The Model J, with its powerful straight-eight engine and custom coachwork, became a symbol of luxury. Production ceased in 1937. Later attempts to revive the brand included the Duesenberg II produced by Elite Heritage Motors in 1978 and a revival by Duesenberg Custom Coach in 1996, with the latter focusing on innovative engine designs.
