Established in 1948, it initially produced the Warszawa, a rebadged GAZ-M20 Pobeda. Subsequent models included the Syrena and Polski Fiat 125p, with the latter being a modified Fiat 125. In 1989, following the fall of communism, FSO partnered with General Motors to assemble Opel Astra and later Daewoo models like the Tico, Espero, Nubira, Leganza, Matiz and Lanos. Production of the Polonez continued until 2003. After Daewoo’s bankruptcy, FSO became independent again and entered a partnership with UkrAVTO, resulting in the assembly of Chevrolet Aveo beginning in 2007. In 2011, production ceased due to the expiration of the Aveo license agreement. The company diversified into automotive parts manufacturing, including exhaust systems and subassemblies, and in 2017, a legal dispute arose with UkrAVTO regarding contractual obligations.
