The company began with Norbert Stevenson’s initial design for a three-wheeled car, inspired by his work as a journalist. Initial funding came from Peter Stein and Karl Schmitt, who were involved in related businesses. The car’s key innovation was the incorporation of a negative scrub radius, a feature later adopted by most front-wheel drive vehicles. Prototypes were built using various engines, including a 350cc Horex Columbus and later a 200cc Baker & Pölling engine. Production began in February 1951, with two distinct body styles: the Type N (slab-sided) and the Type S (rounded). Early production faced challenges with engine quality, leading to returns and rework. The car gained attention during the Rosenmontag carnival procession in 1950, and later achieved notable distances, including a round trip across Europe by Werner Ritterbusch.  Later models utilized 360cc Fichtel & Sachs engines, and the Type S featured a distinctive aluminum body.
