Initially founded as the Lutskyi Avtoremontnyi Zavod in 1951, it produced repair parts for GAZ trucks. The factory was renamed LuAZ in 1965 and began producing its own vehicles, including the amphibious LuAZ-967 in 1961. Throughout the 1970s and 80s, LuAZ produced models like the ‘Volyn’ series (969 and 969M), known for their export success. After Ukraine’s independence, the plant was privatized in 1993 and later acquired by Ukrprominvest Group. In the early 2000s, LuAZ shifted its focus to assembling foreign vehicles, including Hyundai and Kia. By 2006, the plant became part of Bogdan Motors, producing public transport vehicles. In 2014, production shifted to bus and trolleybus assembly.  In 2020, Bogdan Motors faced bankruptcy, and the plant ceased operations. In 2022, Vadym Ihnatov revived the LuAZ brand, focusing on developing and producing new compact vehicles. The company launched the City and Farmer models in 2023, utilizing a Chinese platform and components.
