General Motors initiated the Sheridan project under William (Billy) Durant, seeking to create a new brand separate from its existing acquisitions. The Inter-State Automobile factory in Muncie, Indiana, was purchased to manufacture the vehicles. GM’s Northway engine-making division supplied engines for both four-cylinder and eight-cylinder models.  Eddie Rickenbacker was hired to promote the Sheridan brand. Production targets were set at 300 cars per day, and officials believed this would be profitable. Following Durant’s removal from General Motors in 1921, the Sheridan production ceased.
