Construction began in 1997 under a license from South Korean Daewoo Motors, financed by Doninvest Finance & Industry Group. From 1998, the plant produced Daewoo Lanos and Nubira models under license. Between 1999 and 2002, it assembled the Citroën Berlingo. From 2001 onward, TagAZ produced Hyundai models including the Accent, Sonata, Elantra, and Santa Fe. The company also assembled vehicles from semi-knockdown kits including the Vortex Estina (Chery A5), Corda (Chery Amulet), Tingo (Chery Tiggo), and C10 (JAC Tojoy) and C190 (JAC Rein). In 2010, TagAZ announced plans to build a factory in Bangladesh. The plant covered an area of 60,000 square meters and utilized a multi-level production system.
