The ‘Paperino’ prototype, designed by Renzo Spolti and Vittorio Casini in 1944, led to the name ‘Vespa’ – derived from the insect due to its resemblance. Early production began in 1946, with a focus on efficient volume manufacturing techniques inspired by Ford’s assembly line. Sales rapidly increased following the 1946 Milan Fair and were boosted by Hollywood films like *Roman Holiday*. By the mid-1950s, Vespa was manufactured under license in several countries. Throughout the 1960s and beyond, Piaggio continued to innovate with new models, including the Vespa 125 and 150 GS. In 1959, Piaggio came under the control of the Agnelli family, and in 2006, Aprilia was acquired.  The brand returned to the North American market in 2001, and continues to be popular today as a symbol of urban mobility and cultural expression.
