In 1927, William Morris acquired the company as a personal investment, leading to over-expansion and receivership. Subsequently, Wolseley products were “badge-engineered” by Morris Motors during World War II and later incorporated into British Motor Corporation (BMC), British Motor Holdings (BMH), and eventually British Leyland, where the Wolseley name was discontinued in 1975. John Siddeley acquired the company’s goodwill and patent rights in 1905, replacing Austin as managing director and introducing vertical engines. Production expanded to include international ventures, such as Wolsit in Italy, and specialized engines for marine vessels, lifeboats, submarines, and aircraft. Wolseley also manufactured machine tools, buses, rail engines, tracked tractors for Antarctic expeditions, and a unique gyroscopic car.
